1/23/22 Working Out What God is Working In

Scripture: Philippians 2:12-13
Evangelist: Ian D. Nickerson, Sr.

  1. We continue in sin after we are saved mainly out of habit. In Christ we are dead to sin and alive to righteousness. When we are born again, a radical surgery or heart transplant (Col 2) takes place.
  2. Philippians 2:12-13 emphasizes the process of sanctification. One hand human effort, the other hand divine energy.
  3. You and God has a part in your spiritual development. Your christian experience is to be a life of ins and outs. God is working in you and you are to work out what God’s working in
  4. Be committed to working out your own salvation Philippians 1:6-The completion of the work is embedded in the initation of the work. God finishes what he started. We are still an uncompleted project with God’s guarantee that he will perfect what he’s done in you
  5. You have a responsibility for your own spiritual growth. You and God are co-laborers. You are a co-worker and not a customer!
  6. Salvation brings a spiritual obligation to work out our own salvation and our own faith. We must be what we already are in our eternal position. Ephesians 2:8-10. We are saved for good works. Not by good works..but for good works. We are given a spiritual obligation to work out our salvation. Salvation is a gift that God has given you. In order to benefit, follow God’s instructions. Work out your own salvation.
  7. We are accountable to one another because of the expectation to serve and stand side by side for the faith of the gospel. As Christians, we are directly accountable to other believers. Your personal christianity effects the community.
  8. You are ultimately accountable to God no matter what other people say or do.
  9. Be confident that God is working in you
  10. v. 13 work (in present tense) denotes continual action. Means that God is constantly working on it. God is always at work in you
  11. Homework: set v. 13 to memory and rehearse it to yourself and see if the day gets better. Who can I count on to be with me right now? v. 13 It is God.
